MACHI has developed four seperate coloring books using designs and texts produced by Carin Steen, the director of Arte Accion, our Honduran collaborator. Each book is tailored to Maya communities within the regions and nations with a MACHI presence: Peten, Guatemala, Copan Valley, Honduras, Yucatan, Mexico, and Toledo District, Belize. With the help of translators in Q'eqchi', Chorti', Yukatek, and Mopan Mayan, the books reflect each area's official national language and the predominant indigenous language(s). Currently the Guatemalan, Belizean, and Honduran versions are being distributed in local communities. The distribution of the Mexican coloring book will be delayed until the puppet show is in its distribution phase.
